Life happens. We get busy, overwhelmed, and we lose motivation. I get it. Life can be hard.
As a healthcare executive I understand work-related stress, the diseases that disproportionally plague our community, and the need for increased awareness about how our lifestyle choices impact our overall wellness.
My motto is "LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE!" We want to live a long life, right? So we have to make healthy decisions...decisions that ultimately make us feel good inside. And we have to have FUN!! I absolutely love to travel! I'm obsessed with all things healthy from hair products, to nail polish, to organic produce, to vegan pastries! I'm a dog lover, a yogi, and am so into strength training. Oh...and I love HGTV!
So this is why I created the PLANT LIFE = BEST LIFE Course. I haven't always lived a plant-based lifestyle. But one thing I know for sure, is that life is better now. Let's start with the acne! Yes, adult acne! Gone. Inflammation? Gone. Decreased risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes? Yes, yes, and yes!
I've been a Registered Nurse for nearly 20 years, and I've seen it all. And in many instances, I've seen people seek healing or a cure from a preventable disease. My hope for you is that your lifestyle shift will happen before any disease tries to creep in.
I've taught yoga and meditation for over 8 years. And one thing I know for sure is that self-care begins with self-love. Loving yourself enough means taking the time to do the things you love to do. Life can get busy real quick with work, dating, family, friends, etc. that we forget to take time for ourselves.
We forget to breathe. Yes, we breathe unconsciously every second, but what about conscious breathe? Taking time to meditate has so many benefits, yet takes so little time.
Some think that you have to have to sit on a floor, in a room by yourself, with a candle, and a singing bowl by your side. Don't get me wrong, that sounds like my kind of ambiance, but it's not a necessity. You can get clarity anywhere, anytime.
And for those of you thinking that yoga and/or meditation is a religion and that it doesn't align with your faith, I am here to say that the two don't conflict whatsoever. Yoga and meditation are not religions.
At the start of my career in the healthcare industry, nearly 20 years ago, I quickly learned that I was destined to serve in a leadership capacity. Although when I told my first manager that I was interested in pursuing a supervisory role, she told me "You're not going to be able to do that here." I knew exactly what she meant and appreciated her frankness. (And if you're not sure what she meant, it's a matter of reading between the lines).
Fast-forward to today and I moved up the ranks to a Senior-Executive. Not the way many would have done it, or even expected me too. But 4 degrees and 4 certifications later, I did it.
Striving to overcome the odds can be stressful. Stressful on you and those around you. My yoga/meditation practice and choosing a healthier lifestyle overall have saved me.
